WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Jim Justice released a statement following his cosponsoring of more than two dozen common-sense Bills:
“Working with other members on key legislation and hitting the ground running with a strong record of common-sense legislation is exactly why West Virginians sent me to Washington. These bills cover a range of issues that would benefit Americans should they be signed into law – from energy production, supplementing our southern border, defending our Second Amendment, and protecting the integrity of women and girls’ sports. I have said it from the beginning: I am willing to work with anybody who wants to make life better for West Virginians and Americans alike, and I truly believe the legislation I’ve cosponsored does just that,” said Senator Jim Justice.
BACKGROUND:
A few of the Bills Senator Justice has cosponsored include:
- Main Street Tax Certainty Act: Makes permanent the 20 percent pass-through business tax deduction to prevent a tax hike on small businesses.
- Homeowner Energy Freedom Act: Repeals costly green energy mandates from the Inflation Reduction Act that force states and local governments to adopt expensive energy codes.
- Educational Choice for Children Act: Provides $10 billion in annual tax credits to incentivize private donations for K-12 education scholarships, expanding school choice without federal mandates.
- Stop Illegal Reentry Act (Kate’s Law): Imposes a mandatory minimum sentence of five years for an illegal alien who has multiple convictions, or a conviction for an aggravated felony.
- Secure Rural Schools Act: Extends the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 to support schools, roads, and emergency services in rural communities reliant on public lands.
- Family Farm and Small Business Exemption Act: Restores the exemption of family farms and small businesses with fewer than 100 employees from being counted on the FAFSA form.
- Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025: Prohibits biological males from competing in women’s and girls’ sports in federally funded school athletic programs.
- Thin Blue Line Act: The bill increases penalties for criminals who target law enforcement. Federal law already makes the targeting, killing or attempted killing of federal law enforcement officers, judges, and correctional officers an aggravating factor in the decision whether to impose the federal death penalty. The Thin Blue Line Act would expand this list to include state and local police, firefighters, and other first responders.
