WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Jim Justice joined Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) to introduce the CATCH Fentanyl Act. This bipartisan legislation would establish a pilot program to test new technologies that can expedite and improve the scanning of vehicles and cargo, targeting fentanyl and other illicit substances:
“Fentanyl is destroying families in West Virginia and across America, and we absolutely need to improve our ability to stop it at the border. By beefing up the technology used to inspect what comes across the border, we help keep Americans safe. This bill is a solid step toward securing our border and keeping dangerous fentanyl out of our country,” said Senator Jim Justice.
BACKGROUND:
- This bill would enhance the inspection process at land ports of entry (POEs) along the U.S.-Mexico border.
- This legislation compliments the work Senator Justice did in this week’s Aging Committee Hearing titled, Combating the Opioid Epidemic.
- During the hearing, Senator Justice introduced West Virginia County Commissioner and Board Member of the West Virginia First Foundation, Gregory Duckworth, as a witness.
